Now That You have Seeded — The Most Important Ingredient is Water

After Seeding The Most Important Ingredient is Water.

Because Bill & Reg grass seed has been tested for germination and weeds before it makes its way to you, water is the most important factor when establishing new grass. Seeds need steady moisture to germinate, which means the soil should stay damp — but never soaked — I know it sounds like a frustrating balance. During the first few weeks ensure that the soil is moist, but no pools of sitting water. Letting the surface dry out can stop germination, while overwatering can wash seed away or cause rot.

The best approach is light, frequent watering. Instead of one heavy soak, water two to four times a day for short periods, just enough to keep the top inch of soil moist. Early morning and early evening are ideal times, as they reduce evaporation and help water soak in more evenly.

As the grass begins to grow and roots develop, gradually reduce how often you water but increase the depth. This encourages deeper roots and stronger grass. Consistent moisture early on sets the foundation for a healthier, more resilient lawn long after the seed has sprouted.

Happy Growing!
